How Lymph Connection came about

Karen Law and Megan Chatfield first met whilst working at QE Spa in Rotorua. After discovering a mutual passion for Manual Lymphatic Therapy they jumped at an opportunity to study the Dr Vodder method of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), as the Basic and Level 1 classes were at last being taught in New Zealand.

One thing lead to another and soon they were in Sydney together continuing with Dr Vodder Level 2 & 3 which is the Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT) training for Lymphedema. The treatment of Lymphedema is not an easy thing and no 2 cases are identical. They found it was very helpful to have each other for support and ongoing training in this field of work.

Working together and connecting was invaluable. It made sense to create Lymph Connection - a point of connection for people, providing treatment, education and management. It also acts as a point of connection to other resources and people, making it easier
to learn of new ideas & research in the continually changing world of Lymphedema.

Karen and Megan endeavour to stay up to date with what’s out there and to provide continuing support for anyone on the Lymphedema Journey, or those at risk of developing Lymphedema. It is now well known that the earlier the intervention the better the outcomes. So they offer you the opportunity to manage your own journey without fear but with the strength of knowing where you are and whether what you are doing is helping you or if it needs to be changed.

Karen and Megan are both qualified to treat clients with massage or remedial massage techniques as required or as they see fit.

Relaxation massage is a soft tissue treatment to reduce stress and aid increased blood flow and hence nutrition to body cells and
removal of waste products. Treatment assists with stress, physically and emotionally, it is a wonderful choice for relaxation, a pick
me up or easing tired and overworked muscles.

Remedial massage helps with specific conditions to provide relief and management. Treatment may involve joint rotations, deep and gentle massage techniques, stretches and exercises.

I am very passionate about the MLD and CDT work, this training opens up an entire new and exciting scope of work for me which I really enjoy. It is great to be able to combine all aspects of my training in treatments as required.

I am currently working at the Rotorua Cancer Society as a Massage Therapist on Mondays. My private Lymphoedema work is based out of Queen Elizabeth Health in Rotorua and I practice massage and Lymphedema work at my home clinic which is equidistance between Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatane. I am now able to offer low level light laser, medical taping concepts, and bioimpedance spectroscopy (L-Dex) in conjunction with Massage and Lymphatic Therapy Treatments.

I love walking, swimming and meditation. I believe the most natural food is best for us and limit processed and chemical additives in my diet. There are many stressors in modern day life, emotionally and physically, it is important to recognise these in our lives and to value caring for ourselves.
